Livestock Insurance

Alberta 4-H makes available information from two insurance carriers for 4-H clubs to review and offer to their members.

The Hartford

The Hartford offers several all risk mortality insurance plans for 4-H clubs and individuals belonging to a club.4-H Livestock Club Insurance 

The Hartford Insurance – Livestock Department offers the following options for 4-H Clubs and individual members.

Club Calf Mortality Insurance - **Including Show and Sale**

This is a Full Mortality coverage for Club calves while their project is in progress.

Coverage begins when we receive the completed application

All policies expire on August 31.

This policy will transfer coverage to the buyer of the animal at the Show and Sale

 

RATE:

1) $60.00 per - Beef Animal,

2)  $40.00 per head – Sheep

There is a $250.00 Minimum Policy Premium

 

VALUATIONS:

1) First 90 days after policy inception date

  • Calves covered for $1000.00 per head
  • Sheep covered for $300.00 per head

2) Remaining term of the policy

  • Calves covered for $1500.00 per head
  • Sheep covered for $600.00 per head

4-H Show and Sale Coverage

This policy is designed to insure the club member suffers no unforeseen loss during the final and important aspect of their project – the marketing and sale of their animal.

  • Incoming transit, show and sale premises coverage: covers the animals in transit and while in the yards ate the sale site.

    • Premium Rate - $2.00 per head – Cattle

    • Premium Rate - $1.00 per head - Sheep

This rate applies to ALL animals consigned.

  • Outgoing transit coverage, transit coverage from the sale site to final destination.

    • Premium Rate –- $2.00 per head --- Cattle going direct to abattoir 

    • Premium Rate –- $1.00 per head --- Sheep going direct to abattoir 

    • Premium Rate –- $5.00 per head --- Cattle -30 Day after sale coverage     

    • Premium Rate –- $2.50 per head --– Sheep -  30 Days after sale coverage

 

There is a $75.00 Minimum Policy Premium

The livestock are insured for their actual purchase value or Club sales average to a maximum of $2000.00 per head.

The individual club leader must contact our office before the sale date to arrange coverage.

CFI Insurance Group - Alberta 4-H Livestock Insurance Coverage

Canadian Farm Insurance Corp. will again offer All Risks Mortality livestock insurance to recognized 4-H livestock clubs.  The coverage available is:

 

Beef, Dairy, & Bison Projects

  • a nine-month term at 6% of the animals original value, with the value of the animal increasing 10% per month (designed for fattening stock). Steers-Maximum value $900.00 (Actual weight times by fair market value)

  • a twelve-month term at 6% of the animals original value, but without increasing limits (designed for breeding stock) Females only-Maximum value of $2000.00

  • post sale coverage is available as an endorsement to the policy if there may be a delay in shipping – application must be filled out and submitted.

Horse Projects

  • a twelve-month term at 3% of the animals original value, but without increasing limits (designed for all horse projects except the market horse - meat project).

Canine Projects

  • a twelve-month term at 9.0 % of the animals original value for females and  males.

Stipulations:

  • To issue a policy, a minimum premium of $125.00 per club is required.

  • The club leader must certify the condition of the member’s animal to be sound and healthy at the beginning of the policy period (weigh-in day for fattening projects).  All calves must be weighted and the actual value on weigh day be calculated on the schedule sheet.  Round all values to the nearest dollar.  Misrepresentation of the actual weight and value may result in the policy and any claims being null and void.  The club leader will certify any losses occurring during the term of the policy.

 

Application

  • Please make sure that the application is dated the day of your weigh-in or inspection.

  • Applications should be sent to Canadian Farm Insurance Corp. within 30 days of club weigh-in or inspection.

  • Payment should be sent as one club cheque to Canadian Farm Insurance Corp. within 30 days of club weigh-in or inspection.

Claims

  • if losses should occur, contact Canadian Farm Insurance Corp. immediately for further instructions.
