Alberta 4-H makes available information from two insurance carriers for 4-H clubs to review and offer to their members.

The Hartford

The Hartford offers several all risk mortality insurance plans for 4-H clubs and individuals belonging to a club. 4-H Livestock Club Insurance - The Hartford offers several all risk mortality insurance plans for 4-H clubs and individuals belonging to a club.

  1. 4-H Show and Sale Coverage
     
    1. Incoming transit and show and sale coverage, covering animals from the time of loading at the consignor’s yard, until they are ready for loading after the show sale.  This coverage includes the time that the animals are held in the show and sales yard.

    Premium Rate is $2 per head

    1. Outgoing transit coverage from the time of loading until unloaded at the animal’s final destination
      1. Cattle going directly to abattoir  - $2.00 per head.
      2. 30 Day after sale coverage    Rate is $5.00 per head

Cattle values are actual purchase value or Club sales average to a maximum of $2,500.

There is a $50 Minimum Policy Premium.

Conditions

  • The animal’s condition of health must be verified at the beginning of the policy by the club leader.  Animals suffering from pre-existing conditions or diseases are not insurable.
  • Losses must be reported on a Proof of Loss, verified by the club leader, and forwarded to The Hartford as soon as possible.
  1. Club Calves and Horses
    1. Club Calves

    10% automatic Increase Coverage per month can be provided on animals with values not exceeding $1,500.00.

  1. Annual rate including Five 10% increases – 6%
  2. Annual rate including Ten 10% increases – 8%
  3. Annual rate without automatic increases – 5% of original value.
    1. Horses
      1. Annual rate 4% of the value of the horse.  Horse values are based on purchase price.  Some values can be accounted for with training fees, or trained value.

Club calves and horses subject to a Minimum Premium of $50.00 per policy.

CFI Insurance Group - Alberta 4-H Livestock Insurance Coverage

CFI Insurance Group will again offer All Risks Mortality livestock insurance to recognized 4-H livestock clubs.  The coverage available is:

Beef, Dairy, & Bison Projects

  • a nine-month term at 6% of the animals original value, with the value of the animal increasing 10% per month (designed for fattening stock).
  • a twelve-month term at 6% of the animals original value, but without increasing limits (designed for breeding stock)
  • post sale coverage is available as an endorsement to the policy if there may be a delay in shipping – application must be filled out and submitted.

Horse Projects

  • a twelve-month term at 3% of the animals original value, but without increasing limits (designed for all horse projects except the market horse - meat project).

Canine Projects

  • a twelve-month term at 9.0 % of the animals original value for females and  males.

Stipulations:

  • To issue a policy, a minimum premium of $125.00 per club is required.

  • The club leader must certify the condition of the member’s animal to be sound and healthy at the beginning of the policy period (weigh-in day for fattening projects).  All calves must be weighted and the actual value on weigh day be calculated on the schedule sheet.  Round all values to the nearest dollar.  Misrepresentation of the actual weight and value may result in the policy and any claims being null and void.  The club leader will certify any losses occurring during the term of the policy.

  • Please make sure that the application is dated the day of your weigh-in or inspection.

  • Applications should be sent to CFI Insurance Group within 30 days of club weigh-in or inspection.

  • Payment should be sent as one club cheque to CFI Insurance Group within 30 days of club weigh-in or inspection.

Claims

  • If losses should occur, contact CFI Insurance Group immediately for further instructions.
