The West Central 4‑H Region consists of the Counties of Red Deer, Lacombe, Ponoka, Wetaskiwin, Camrose and the Municipal District of Clearwater.
The West Central Regional 4‑H Council holds a number of events during the year. They are:
Regional Public Speaking
The top two Junior and Senior speakers from each of the districts in the region compete in the Regional Competition. A separate competition is held for Juniors and Seniors. Dates are set annually by Regional Council. Each year a different district hosts the competition.
Regional Presentations
Each year District councils are asked to submit the number of presentations that have been done in their district. Once those numbers have been received in the Regional 4‑H Office, a quota for participants at the Regional event is set. There are a maximum of 18 presentations at the regional event and some preference is given to seniors.
Regional Junior Winter Camp
Held in late February, or early March, (the second weekend after Family Day), this is a weekend winter camp for 4‑H members 10-12 years old. The camp is held at the Alberta 4‑H Centre, Battle Lake and is planned and staffed by members of the West Central 4‑H Alumni. Senior members who are interested in counseling at camps may apply to be counselors at this program, and to assist with planning.
Regional Senior Winter Camp
This ski trip is a joint event of the East, West Central and Calgary. It is open to senior members and is planned and staffed by members of the Calgary and West Central Alumni groups. It is held in late February each year. Members ski in the Banff or Lake Louise area.
Regional Horse Show
This annual event gives members in horse clubs an opportunity to compete against horse club members from other areas in a wide variety of classes. The Horse Show is held the weekend before the first Monday in June at the Red Deer Westerner grounds. The event is planned by the West Central Light Horse Committee. This committee meets throughout the year to plan the show. If you are interested in being on the committee, please contact the 4‑H office in Stettler.
Regional Record Book Competition
4‑H members keep record books to allow them to keep track of how much it costs to complete their project. There is a regional competition to pick the top record books in each of the projects. The deadline for submission of books to the competition is November 1st of each year. Books should be sent to the 4‑H Office in Stettler to be included in the competition.
Executive Workshop
Each year a different District Council hosts an executive workshop. The workshop is usually held in late November or early December. It is up to each district to decide what form the workshop will take.
Multi Species Judging
A multi species judging competition is held each year and it is hosted by a different district each year. The date and location of the event are decided by the hosting district.
Fun Day
Each year a different district hosts a fun day for 4‑H members. The date and activities are up to the local planning committee.
