Northeast Region Reminder

Jan 2012

Happy New Year!!

We certainly can’t complain about how 2012 has started off.  To anyone wondering if I got run over by Santa over the holidays, I apologize but we took a family trip to Denver Colorado.  I am back and I am trying hard to catch up on all the phone calls and emails.

There are a few things I would like to address to the masses.  The following are some dates to keep in mind.  (The date on the 4-H website is incorrect for You Be the Judge!)

Deadline to apply for You Be the Judge/NE Adventure day is Friday, February the 3rd – program will be held on February 11th

Communications competition will be held on March 10th.

Deadline for Western Canadian Judging Competition – March 1 competition will be held March 16th.

You Be the Judge / NE Adventure Day – dates on the calendar is incorrect.  The application is linked here.

Western Canadian Judging – reminder that this competition is the qualifying competition for the NE for Provincial Judging held in the summer.  Provincial judging offers each year award trips to Agribition, NILE, Denver!  Come prepared and best of luck!

Leader Screening -  For some leaders there was an email that was created around 10 pm on Friday, January 6th.  Leaders receiving only this email are to disregard the request as it was sent in error from Edmonton.  I truly appreciate your patience with the new system.

Beef Leaders – Kirk Stierwalt Cattle clinic is coming to Alberta.  If you have any members that would be interested in learning more about clipping and grooming beef cattle, please share this interesting clinic opportunity.

The clinic will be hosted in Ponoka March 9 – 11th.  This will be the first time that Kirk is doing a clinic in Alberta.  Topics will include daily hair care, clipping, show day fitting, showmanship and any other topics that members can think to ask.  There is space for only 25 participants and the cost of the clinic is $300.00 per person but includes the clinic and all the meals for the weekend.  You can contact Val Townsend at 403-887-2285 or email her at lsangus@telusplanet.net

Alberta Girls Parliament – deadline Jan 15 -  The 41st session of the Alberta Girls Parliament (AGP) will be held in Edmonton in late March 2012. It is an enjoyable way to learn about our parliamentary system of government.   http://www.4h.ab.ca/EventDetails.aspx?a=974

Call for Volunteers for the 100th Anniversary – deadline Jan 20 - Committee Volunteer -  Events, Fund Development, History, Marketing  Subcommittee Volunteer – Events: National and International Events, Provincial Events, Community and Local Events – Marketing; Branding, Communications and Public Relations, Saleable Items  http://www.4h.ab.ca/EventDetails.aspx?a=995

Green Looks Good on You Challenge - Alberta 4-H (with the support of Cenovus Energy) is helping steward the environment in local communities by developing a “new” resourcegreenlooksgoodonyou.ca. Here 4-H clubs can go online to learn about the environment by taking the Green Looks Good on You Challenge.   If the environment is something you or your 4-H club is interested in, visit www.greenlooksgoodonyou.ca or contact Jalisa to get involved in the Challenge!  Jalisa Barnett, 4-H Specialist - Leadership and Resource Development, 4-H and Agriculture Education Branch, p: 403.948.1521, e. jalisa.barnett@gov.ab.ca

Best of luck to all members with upcoming communications activities!!  This may be the single most important skill you learn in 4-H be proud of it.

Oct 26, 2011

Hello Everyone – Welcome back to a new 4-H year.  For those of you that have started the on-line registration process, I hope it is going well for you.  This new database was very needed and I feel a lot like ATB with their messaging that they are in “training”, but I sincerely promise you that benefits of this new system will make things easier in the long run.  Don’t hesitate to send me feedback, questions for comments though as the only way we can improve it is with your input and now is the time to make the changes.

Speaking of changes, the time has come to bid farewell to my right hand woman, Mrs. Connie Gueutal is “retiring” from her work at the 4-H office.  Connie will continue to be involved in 4-H but is excited about the opportunity to stay a little closer to home with her GORGEOUS GRANDBABIES!  I sincerely thank her for everything she has done over the past number of years, but I refuse to say good-bye.

I am excited to welcome Ann Rustad to the 4-H team!!  Ann’s from a 4-H family so she fits right in, and I am thrilled to have her working in this support capacity with us.
