4-H Section - Government of Alberta

 

4-H is a Section of the Government of Alberta’s Alberta Agriculture and Forestry Ministry. Section staff administer, deliver and evaluate regional and provincial 4-H programs, develop and distribute project material, promote 4-H and manage the 4-H website. In addition, the 4-H Section provides direct client support and mentorship primarily at the regional level, but extending through to various councils and committees as well as the grassroots club level. This support includes leadership training, conflict resolution, project management, and mentorship for our volunteers.

The 4-H Section’s mandate is as follows:

  • Developing leadership, interpersonal and technical skills through a strong partnership of volunteers, industry and government

  • Promote and foster the development of youth in becoming adults of integrity who are coping, competent, caring and contributing members of society

  • Encourage entrepreneurial development

  • Promote agriculture advocacy

  • Be developmentally appropriate and where applicable, progressive in educational and technical skill transfer by providing education and training opportunities in leadership, communication, entrepreneurism, and agriculture

  • Encourage volunteerism and community engagement

  • Provide leadership and set policy for Alberta 4-H through the promotion of transparency and accountability in all policies, services and programs

  • Provide meaningful measures for continuous improvement
