Program Description:

 

NORTHWEST REGIONAL 4-H FAIR  |  Mayerthorpe High School**  Mayerthorpe, Alberta  |  SATURDAY, APRIL 13, 2019

** Mayerthorpe High School is located at 5310 50 Ave Mayerthorpe AB

The 4-H Fair is open to all 4-H members and adults.  There are sessions specifically for Cleaver Kids.   Any club in the Northwest Region is eligible to send registrations to the Fair. The Lac Ste. Anne District welcomes you!

PROGRAM

9:00 – 9:30 a.m. Registration – Morning snack, meet and greet games, deliver exhibit entries

*Please tag Bench Show items before arrival (make as many copies of the last page as needed)

9:30 – 10:00 a.m.   Welcome and introductions, group photo

10:00 – 11:45 a.m.  Judging of Fair Exhibits

10:00 – 11:45 a.m.  Workshop Session # 1

11:45 – 1:15 p.m.   Lunch, Bench Show Viewing

1:15 – 3:00 p.m.     Workshop Session # 2

3:00 – 4:00 p.m.     Awards, Evaluations, Snacks and Wrap Up

Please register each person on a separate form and then submit them with a club cheque or money order made payable to: Northwest Regional 4-H Life Skills and Other Animals Committee.

FEES

The fee for each member in attendance (CK, Jr, Int, Sr) is $25. This includes two workshops and lunch. Each adult in attendance must also pay a $20 fee.  All additional costs have been covered by a generous donor.

CUPCAKE DECORATING

Come learn how to make a plain cupcake into something fancier.  Learn the tips and tricks of decorating from a Red Seal Chef! 

AM Session for younger members will include basic and simple decorating skills and tips. 

PM session for older participants will include more advanced techniques and skills.

FACE PAINTING

Learn the art of face painting.  This is the place to try your hand at face painting. You will be working on a fellow 4-H member model in front of you to get a real hands on experience.  Be prepared to be surprised.

LINE DANCING      AM/PM

Ever wanted to learn how to dance but too scared to get up in front of a large crowd.  Here is your chance to learn a few line dances in a smaller crowd.  Prepare to bring your dancing shoes. 

FIRST AID FOR SMALL ANIMALS

We will have the local veterinarian teaching you about small animal first aid.  Bring your questions.

PET FOOD/DOG GROOMING

Have fun at home grooming your pets.  Learn what basic tasks need to be completed at home to maintain the health and wellness of your pet. Learn about nutrition needs and what foods are safe for your pets in the home.

GOLD PANNING

Welcome back to the gold rush days.  Learn the basic skills of retrieving the gold out of the pay dirt.  With any luck you may be going home with a flake or two. 

BAT/BUTTERFLY HOUSE BUILDING

Come ready to build a new habitat home for our yard friendly animals.  Keep them warm and safe and they will help you rid the yard of insects and repopulate your flower gardens. 

LEARN HAIR BRAIDING

Always wonder how to turn those long locks into something more beautiful?

Learn some new and creative hair braiding techniques for yourself or others.  For this class you will either need a long haired partner or utilize a cleaver kid as your model. 

FAIRY GARDEN

This can be a standalone project or make one with your parent.   You thought you couldn’t make one of the little creations, well your mistaken.  C J’s creations will walk you through the art of completing one of these treasures.   Please note there may be extra items for sale the day of if you want more then what is offered. 

BEGINNING CAR MAINTENANCE – Must be age 14 plus

Did you just get your learners permit?  Well here is a session to give you a few tips on car maintenance and confidence in what to do if the car breaks down.  Before you take Mom or Dads car for a drive remember to check…..

BAKING BUNS  Age 14 plus and Adults

Ever wonder how to make homemade buns?  In this class you will learn a delicious quick rise bun recipe that will leave your mouth watering!  The lucky participants of this class will get to take home 2 dozen buns for supper…if you don’t eat them all on the drive home that is!!

BEEF AND SHEEP GROOMING TIPS

Beef

A former member is going to walk you through the do’s and don’ts of trimming, blowing and combing.  They will explain the products and even show you how some work.  Come prepared with questions and enjoy your day

SHEEP

Sr. member Cara McNaughton will guide you thru the steps of getting your market lamb and ewe projects into the ring with a winning look.  Learn what is the basic equipment needed up to a more advance set of trimming and grooming equipment.  Learn how to use your cards, blowers and hand shears.  Learn to trim your ewes to their best advantage so that they stand out when showing.  Cara will also go over basic showmanship and confirmation in this class. 

SCRAP BOOKING - 4-H DESK CALENDAR

This project is a small chip board coil ringed calendar..(about 5 by 7 for easy photo printing) with a photo of your choice on one side and a calendar and TO DO for each month on the other side.  It can sit on your desk or dresser as a home décor item.  It will have a package of cool embellishments and positive sayings or quotes that you could glue onto either the photo or calendar side.  Nice to keep track of important dates for 4-H or TO DO things.   

WOODEN SIGN

Here is your chance to build a wooden sign to decorate your room or make it for a gift. 

Please mark off your color choice of board and design you wish to have. 

BEADED JEWELLERY

Need an accessory for your outfit.  Here is your chance to build your own.  Build this gorgeous necklace/bracelet and you will be surprisingly happy. 

MINI WEAVING

Let’s go back to the old days and learn the art of weaving. 

Using basic weaving techniques, we will make a tiny wall hanging or necklace.

POM POM ANIMALS

You will learn to strategically wind yarns, pop out a Pom Pom, snip here and trim there, add some small features, and produce a cute and cuddly animal head.  Put them in a basket or pin them to your sweater.  Learn to make these newest craft obsessions!

BEE KEEPING 101

Did you ever think of raising bees for honey?  Here is your chance to get started in this up and coming hobby.  Come build a little hive and learn the beginning tips, and get your toast ready for that fresh honey.  

CANVAS PAINTING

Whether you have never painted before or you already enjoy being artistic, this class will promise to be fun for everyone.  Paint a beautiful canvas under the direction of expert Jacqui Paul, she has led hundreds of classes and will be sure to teach you new techniques and tricks that you can use to make your art projects even better.
