Program Description:

The South 4-H Region Multi Judging Competition provides the opportunity for junior, intermediate and senior 4-H members to demonstrate their individual decision-making and communication skills by providing their own reasons for placing 5 different classes. Cleaver Kids will participate in their own activities at the event.

The 2020 South 4-H Region Multi Judging Competition will take place in a new location! This event will take place at the Fort Macleod Midnight Stadium on Thursday, April 16th!

Also new this year, registration will be open on-line until Tuesday, Apr 14 at 11:59 pm. Don’t panic if you don’t get registered through this new method - registration will also be accepted in-person at the Stadium, the morning of the event.

Cleaver Kids are also invited to pre-register on-line, or register at the event.

The registration (and check-in) desk will be open at the Stadium for everyone, at 9:30 am where members will receive their cards for all classes. Registration will be followed by:

  • judging workshop – to develop members’ knowledge on ‘how to judge’, what to look for, the format for giving reasons and more!
  • judges’ critiques, for each class – the official judge for each class will provide information, including pointers on what to look for and why
  • lunch – no-charge meal, provided to all participating members and officials by the South 4-H Region Council and the sponsor, Farming Smarter.
  • **Please communicate any dietary concerns (gluten-free, etc.) so that lunch can work for everyone!**
  • competition - “Learn to do by Doing” by comparing the items in 5 different classes. Members will make notes and present oral reasons to the class judge.

The day will wrap-up with recognition, awards presentations and clean up, around 3 pm.

Notes:    if a member will require a scribeplease indicate the name of the adult who will be volunteering to assisting another member.

Adult volunteers are needed as scribes, group leaders, animal ‘holders’ in livestock classes, card markers, reason takers, and more! Please connect with David Bexte to sign up.

  • Members are requested to bring along a clipboard if you have one, as well as notepaper and sharpened pencils.
  • Please check out the 4-H Judging Project Guide for information about judging.
